Driving out the Turkish. Aristocratic and urban relics from the 17th century.

Room 8

The age of liberation from the Turkish rule is presented through the arms used in the Turkish as well as in the Christian army, and a gobelin, displayed at the end of the corridor. Under the paintings on the left, the glass cases disclose the main ornaments of the aristocratic attire. On the right, the visitors can study the selected treasures of the Esterházy family and contemporary pieces of furniture, as well as coins from the 16th and 17th century.

Curiosities:

The Turkish military badge adorned with a horse's tail is called a 'tug'.
Abdurrahman, the last pasha of Buda, died a heroic death near the present András Hess place.
Pocket sundials were used in the 17th century.
George Rákóczy published the New Testament in Romanian, too.
