Culture and national awareness at the end of the 18th and the first half of the 19th century

Room 13

In this exhibition hall, the relics of the contemporary culture, education, results of contemporary science, the institutions representing the national culture and personal items of prominent persons can be seen. The education system in the 18th century, the works of the important characters of the Enlightenment, the history of the neologist movement and the establishment of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences are also exhibited. The portraits of the outstanding personalities of Hungarian music and theatre refer to the beginning of the Hungarian dramatic art and the appearance of the first permanent theatre. The selection from the first acquisitions of the Museum denotes the foundation of the first public collection.

Curiosities:

  Here we can see the child Mozart's travelling clavichord on which he practiced during his long concert tours.
