Coins Collection
The Coins Repository of the Hungarian National Museum was established
in 1802. The base of the collection is the private collection of
count István Széchenyi - also the founder of the museum - consisting
of two thousand Hungarian and Bohemian coins.
During the past two centuries, the material of the Coins collection
got richer through inheritances, donations, and further findings.
Today it has more than 300.000 recorded objects. The collection's
aim is to find Hungarian findings in the first place, although its
profile is universal.
The collection of the Coins Repository is not public. Part of its
material is exhibited at the permanent historical exhibition, or
at certain periodical exhibitions.
Research service and opening hours for clients: Monday, Wednesday,
Friday from 10 AM to 2 PM.
