Collection Unit "C"

Medallions and plaquettes of historical importance (Hungarian and foreign)

Honours and orders (Hungarian and foreign)

The collection currently has 43000 pieces, most of which is related to Hungary. However, it also contains smaller series belonging to the outstanding periods of medal art, for instance Italian Renaissance or French Secession. Along with the Hungarian, Transsylvanian and Austrian historical medals, there are series of christianing, friendship, marriage, erotic, personal, school, sports, and St. George medals. Among the ecclesiastical medals the largest group with 3500 pieces -which is a significant number even by international standards - is that of the papal medals. The number of pilgrimage medals and medals with a biblical theme on them is more than a few thousands. Smaller series from the most significant medal artists of the 19th -20th century are also to be found in the collection.

The other large part of the collection is that of 20000 honours and orders. Half of the material consists of Hungarian honours and orders from the Habsburg era. The other part consists of foreign honours given to a Hungarian person (president, diplomat, soldier or artist).
