Historical Photographic Collection

Hungary's greatest historical photographic collection has a history more than a hundred years long. The earliest recorded item is a dagerrotype that became part of the collection in 1874. The most important predecessor of the collection are the Historical Galleryof the Hungarian National Musem -established in 1884- and the Museum of Contemporary History -established in 1957-. The Photo collection collects, systematizes, and processes photos connected to Hungarian history, its aim being a complete collection. The Historical Photographic Collection is an autonomous part of the HNM since 1995. Currently, more than a million photos are kept there? 350 000 of which are individually, the rest being filed by date and subject.
